Idaho State Bar recognizes Treasure Valley members at Annual Resolution Meeting

Idaho State Bar recognizes Treasure Valley members at Annual Resolution Meeting

November 9, 2017-Boise, Idaho—The Idaho State Bar will be recognizing ten of their Treasure Valley members during the Annual Fourth District Bar Association Resolution Meeting to be held at the Barber Park Event Center (4049 S. Eckert Road) in Boise on Wednesday, November 15 at Noon.

  • Ada County Prosecuting Attorney Jan Bennetts and Cosho Humphrey, LLP attorney Joseph Meier, both of Boise, will receive the Professionalism Award, given to at least one attorney in each of Idaho’s seven judicial districts who has engaged in extraordinary activity in his or her community, in the state, or in the profession, which reflects the highest standards of professionalism. Bennetts is a graduate of the University of Idaho College of Law. Meier received his law degree from Willamette University College of Law.

 

  • Four individuals will receive the Denise O’Donnell Day Pro Bono Award, presented to the person(s) from each judicial district who have donated extraordinary time and effort to help clients who are unable to pay for legal services.
    • Sara M. Berry with Holland & Hart LLP in Boise committed over 200 hours on two pro bono cases – one through the federal court’s pro bono program and the other involving an appeal to the United State Supreme Court. Berry is a graduate of the University of Idaho College of Law.
    • Heather Conder, a graduate of Regent University School of Law, and an attorney with C.K. Quade Law, PLLC, in Boise, dedicated over 100 hours of pro bono service on several immigration cases assisting elderly refugees with their naturalization petitions and serving as the guardian ad litem in an adult guardianship case.
    • Former Idaho Supreme Court Justice (1982-1989) and retired Navy Captain Robert Huntley of The Huntley Law Firm, PLLC, of Boise is receiving the award for his dedication to the law and pro bono work throughout his 58 year career as a licensed attorney in Idaho. The University of Idaho College of Law graduate volunteered his time from 1990 to 2005 on a successful lawsuit culminated with a final Idaho Supreme Court ruling seeking a reform of the education funding system.
    • Lynette Davis with Hawley Troxell Ennis & Hawley, LLP in Boise volunteered 223 hours on a highly contested custody case. The Gonzaga University School of Law graduate shares “I have a soft spot for kids – especially those in unfavorable circumstances.

 

  • Judge Timothy Hansen of Meridian will be recognized as a Retiring Judge. Judge Hansen served as a District Judge in the Fourth Judicial District and also served a term as the District Administrative Judge. He is a graduate of the University of Idaho College of Law.

 

  • Immediate Past Idaho Supreme Court Chief Justice Jim Jones of Boise, a graduate of Northwestern University School of Law, will be recognized for his 50th Year Anniversary of admission into the Idaho State Bar.

 

  • Boise State University General Counsel Matthew Wilde will receive the Service Award given each year to lawyers and non-lawyers for exemplary service to the Idaho State Bar and/or Idaho Law Foundation. Wilde, a graduate of the University of Idaho College of Law, serves on the Bar’s Character and Fitness Committee and is Past Chairperson for the Government & Public Sector Lawyers.

 

  • Richard Hall, Of Counsel to the Boise law firm of Duke Scanlan Hall, PLLC, will be the fourth recipient of the Richard C. Fields Civility Award presented by the Idaho State Bar Professionalism & Ethics Section and Concordia University School of Law. Hall, a 47 year member of the Idaho State Bar and graduate of the University of Idaho College of Law, is receiving the award for his commitment to professionalism and civility in the profession.

Idaho State Bar recognizes Western Treasure Valley members at Annual Resolution Meeting

Idaho State Bar recognizes Western Treasure Valley members at Annual Resolution Meeting

November 9, 2017-Nampa, Idaho—The Idaho State Bar will be recognizing eight of their Western Treasure Valley members during the Annual Third District Bar Association Resolution Meeting to be held at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites (4104 E. Flamingo Avenue) in Nampa on Wednesday, November 15 at 6:00 pm.

  • Nicholas T. Bokides will receive the Professionalism Award, given to at least one attorney in each of Idaho’s seven judicial districts who has engaged in extraordinary activity in his or her community, in the state, or in the profession, which reflects the highest standards of professionalism. Bokides is a private practitioner in Weiser. He has been an Idaho lawyer for 35 years and is a graduate of the University of Colorado School of Law.

    Bokides reflects “many things have motivated and inspired me over the years. Certainly the acts of kindness and courtesies often extended by many of the fine colleagues I have encountered over the years inspire and provide guidance. Nothing is more inspiring than a client who drops a personal thank you note off after a difficult matter is resolved.”

  • In addition, Bokides will receive the Denise O’Donnell Day Pro Bono Award, presented to the person(s) from each judicial district that have donated extraordinary time and effort to help clients who are unable to pay for legal services. Bokides shares “the tremendous need, especially in the smaller, rural communities of Idaho,” inspires him to give back.

 

  • Also, receiving the Denise O’Donnell Day Pro Award is William “Bud” F. Yost III of Yost Law, PLLC in Nampa. A graduate of the University of Idaho College of Law and 48 year member of the Idaho State Bar, Yost is receiving the award for his dedication of many hours on an adoption case for grandparents seeking to adopt their grandchild. Yost has also served on several nonprofit boards that have contributed significantly to the Nampa community.

 

  • Judges Juneal Kerrick and Frank Kotyk, both of Caldwell, will be recognized as Retiring Judges. Kerrick served as a Thirid Judicial District Court Judge while Kotyk served as Magistrate Judge in Canyon County. Both are graduates of the University of Idaho College of Law.

 

  • The Hon. Wayne Fuller of Weiser received his law degree from Stanford University Law School. He will be recognized for his 60th Year Anniversary of admission into the Idaho State Bar.

 

  • David Whitney of Caldwell, a University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law graduate, and Robert Miller, of Caldwell, a University of Oregon School of Law graduate, will be recognized for their 50th Year Anniversary of admission into the Idaho State Bar.

  • Kimberly D. Evans Ross will receive the Professionalism Award, given to at least one attorney in each of Idaho’s seven judicial districts who has engaged in extraordinary activity in his or her community, in the state, or in the profession, which reflects the highest standards of professionalism. Evans Ross with Battelle Energy Alliance, LLC, in Idaho Falls attended law school at the University of North Carolina and has practiced law in Idaho for 13 years. She shares “never lower your standards. No matter how hard the job gets, you’ve got to be able to live with yourself at the end of the day.”

 

  • Two individuals will receive the Denise O’Donnell Day Pro Bono Award, presented to the person(s) from each judicial district who have donated extraordinary time and effort to help clients who are unable to pay for legal services.
    • Ammons City Councilman Sean J. Coletti with Hopkins Roden Crockett Hansen & Hoopes, PLLC, spent 30 hours assisting a man in obtaining guardianship over his young nephew. Coletti is also a regular volunteer at the wills clinic for veterans in the Seventh Judicial District. Coletti graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Law.
    • Megan J. Hopfer with Beard St. Clair Gaffney PA in Idaho Falls provided 20 hours of pro bono assistance to an area non-profit that serves low income and homeless clients. In addition to her legal work, Hopfer is president of the Idaho Falls Youth Arts Centre. She graduated from the University of Idaho College of Law.

November 9, 2017-Pocatello, Idaho—The Idaho State Bar will be recognizing three of their Pocatello area members during the Annual Sixth District Bar Association Resolution Meeting to be held at the Juniper Hills Country Club (6600 S. Bannock Highway) in Pocatello on Tuesday, November 14 at Noon.

  • Craig W. Christensen of Pocatello will receive the Professionalism Award, given to at least one attorney in each of Idaho’s seven judicial districts who has engaged in extraordinary activity in his or her community, in the state, or in the profession, which reflects the highest standards of professionalism. Christensen’s practice focuses on litigation, banking law and bankruptcy law. He is a graduate of the University of Idaho College of Law and has been practicing in Idaho for 40 years.

 

  • Two individuals will receive the Denise O’Donnell Day Pro Bono Award, presented to the person(s) from each judicial district who have donated extraordinary time and effort to help clients who are unable to pay for legal services.
    • Julian Gabiola with Hawley Troxell Ennis & Hawley LLP in Pocatello spent 100 hours on Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) cases that included guardianships for children, primarily in child protection cases. He also gives Soundstart presentations to groups of young, low-income parents on basic information related to family law issue in an effort to assist at-risk parents in identifying and addressing legal issues before they become crises. Gabiola is a graduate of the University of Idaho College of Law.
    • Anthony Sasser dedicated 25 hours for CASA in a guardianship matter for a child. Sasser with Sasser Law Office is Pocatello attended law school at the University of Idaho. He also is a volunteer coach.

November 9, 2017-Twin Falls, Idaho—The Idaho State Bar will be recognizing six of their Wood River Valley and Magic Valley members during the Annual Fifth District Bar Association Resolution Meeting to be held at the Stone House (330 4th Ave. S.) in Twin Falls on Tuesday, November 14 at 6:00 pm.

  • Andrew H. Parnes will receive the Professionalism Award, given to at least one attorney in each of Idaho’s seven judicial districts who has engaged in extraordinary activity in his or her community, in the state, or in the profession, which reflects the highest standards of professionalism. Parnes with the Law Office of Andrew Parnes in Ketchum is a graduate of the University of California-Berkeley School of Law and has practiced law in Idaho for 27 years.

 

  • Two individuals will receive the Denise O’Donnell Day Pro Bono Award, presented to the person(s) from each judicial district who have donated extraordinary time and effort to help clients who are unable to pay for legal services.
    • Brian Williams with Williams, Meservy & Lothspeich, LPP of Jerome, dedicated 100 hours of pro bono work on a guardianship petition for a vulnerable adult and has been volunteering at the College of Southern Idaho’s Legal Clinic. Williams attended law school at the University of Idaho.
    • Bruce Collier with Kneeland, Korb, Collier & Legg PLLC spent 50 hours providing legal service to a local woman needing assistance on family law matters. Collier is a graduate of the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law.

 

  • Fifth Judicial District Judges Robert Elgee of Hailey and Michael Crabtree of Burley, will be recognized as Retiring Judges. Elgee, a graduate of the University of Idaho College of Law, was chambered in Blaine County. Crabtree attended law school at the University of Kansas and was chambered in Cassia County.

 

  • Donald Chisholm with Chisholm Law Office in Burley will be recognized for his 50th Year Anniversary of admission into the Idaho State Bar. He attended the University of San Francisco School of Law.
