We have been informed of another email scam alert circulating to attorneys, particularly those who serve as District Bar Officers. This particular scam is a phishing scam in which the sender appears to be the District Bar Officer request payment be sent to him/her via overnight mail. If you receive a similar email, please do not reply or open any links. District Bar Officers will not ever email you regarding a request for paymentSee the example below:

Texie Montoya selected to receive Idaho State Bar Outstanding Young Lawyer Award

Boise, Idaho-July 10, 2017 – Boise native, Texie Montoya, will receive the Idaho State Bar Outstanding Young Lawyer Award in Moscow on July 13 during the Idaho State Bar Annual Meeting. Montoya is Associate Special Counsel for Boise State University. In her short, six and half years as a member of the Idaho State Bar, she has taken an energetic role serving as chairperson of the Government & Public Sector Lawyers Section and as the networking chairperson for the Young Lawyers Section. Montoya is active with Attorneys for Civic Education, is a member of Idaho Women Lawyers, a mentor for law students at Concordia University School of Law and a published author in the state bar’s legal publication The Advocate. Outside of the legal profession, she is a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys, a director of Go Lead Idaho and a volunteer for the South Boise Little League, the Women’s & Children’s Alliance and Boise State’s Alumni Association.

The Outstanding Young Lawyer Award recognizes as young lawyer who has provided service to the profession, the Idaho State Bar, the Idaho Law Foundation, and to the community, and who exhibits professional excellence.

Darrel W. Aherin set to receive Idaho State Bar Distinguished Lawyer Award

Boise, Idaho-July 10, 2017 – Darrel W. Aherin, resident of Genesee, will receive the Idaho State Bar’s highest honor, the Distinguished Lawyer Award on July 12 during the Idaho State Bar
Annual Meeting in Moscow. Aherin is a partner in the law firm Aherin, Rice & Anegon in Lewiston. He is a member of the Lewiston Clarkston Chamber of Commerce and is a Planning & Zoning Commissioner for Genesee. From 1997 to 2003, Aherin served as the Bar representative to the Idaho Judicial Council. He is a past president of the Idaho Trial Lawyers Association (ITLA) and an Idaho representative to the Board of Governors of the American Association for Justice. In 2005, he received the James J. May Trial Lawyer of the Year award from ITLA. Aherin is a graduate of the University of Idaho College of Law.

Hancock works for the Benewah Medical & Wellness Center in Plummer. He served as chairperson of the Indian Law Section from 2013 to 2016 and has been instrumental in coordinating continuing legal education programs for the Indian Law Section and the University of Idaho College of Law, where he serves on their Native American Law Advisory Board.

Gjording is a partner with the law firm Gjording Fouser PLLC. He received his law degree from the University of Idaho College of Law. His practice’s main focus is medical malpractice defense. Gjording is a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, an advocate on the American Board of Trial Advocates and a member of the Idaho Association of Defense Counsel. He has been named a ‘Mountain States Super Lawyer’ annually since 2008.

Judge John R. Stegner set to receive Idaho State Bar Distinguished Jurist Award

Judge John R. Stegner set to receive Idaho State Bar Distinguished Jurist Award

Boise, Idaho-July 10, 2017 – The Honorable John R. Stegner of Moscow will receive the Idaho State Bar’s highest judiciary honor, the Distinguished Jurist Award, on July 12 during the Idaho
State Bar Annual Meeting on the University of Idaho campus. Judge Stegner is a District Judge in Idaho’s Second Judicial District Court. He is past president of the Ray McNichols Inn of Court and of the Idaho District Judges Association. Judge Stegner has been a member of the statewide Drug Court and Mental Health Court Coordinating Committee since 2001. He helped
create Latah County’s Drug Court in 2002 and the county’s Mental Health Court in 2012. He is also a member of the Idaho Criminal Justice Commission where he chairs the subcommittee on mental health and substance abuse. A native of Grangeville, Judge Stegner is the author of Ten Things to Do in My Courtroom. He received his law degree from the University of Idaho College of Law.

The Distinguished Jurist Award recognizes excellence, integrity and independence by a member of the judiciary. Individuals are selected for their competence, fairness, goodwill and
professionalism.
