Karen E. Gowland set to receive Idaho State Bar Distinguished Lawyer Award
Boise, Idaho-July 10, 2017 – Karen E. Gowland of Boise will receive the Idaho State Bar’s highest honor, the Distinguished Lawyer Award, on July 12 during the Idaho State Bar Annual Meeting in Moscow. Now retired, Gowland spent her 30-year tenure as corporate counsel with Boise Cascade and its affiliates. Gowland currently serves on Boise Cascade Company’s Board of Directors where she chairs the Compensation Committee and is a member of the Governance Committee. In addition, Gowland is chair of the University of Idaho Foundation Board and has served on the Idaho State Bar Professional Conduct Board for 21 years – while serving as chair for the past 15 years. Gowland has a law degree and an accounting degree from the University of Idaho.
The Distinguished Lawyer Award is given to an attorney (or attorneys) each year who has distinguished the profession through exemplary conduct and many years of dedicated service to
the profession and to Idaho citizens.

Evans Ross is employed by Battelle Energy Alliance, LLC. She serves as chairperson of the Idaho State Bar Reasonable Accommodations Committee, is president-elect of the Seventh District Bar Association and is a member of the Idaho Pro Bono Commission. In addition, she volunteers for the Idaho Falls Youth Hockey Association.

New Scam Alert!
We have received a report of a scam currently circulating. An attorney will receive a scam email seeking representation to draft a purchase and sales agreement for a boat sale. The Idaho company they are claiming is making the purchase is in fact an Idaho company, however the email is not legitimate. If you receive an email similar to this, delete it immediately without opening the attachment or responding. This scam originally began circulating to target Texas attorneys. Important Notice From the Idaho Supreme Court Regarding July 1 Changes in Law & Rules
IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING JULY 1 CHANGES IN LAW & RULES:
- You MUST file a Case Information Sheet with ALL new civil cases (other than small claims actions) starting JULY 1 (pursuant to I.R.C.P. 3(d)(1)).
Currently a case information sheet is required to be filed by the initiating party in certain types of civil cases, such as guardianship and adoption, and the sheet requests information about both the initiating and responding party. The Supreme Court has adopted a new civil case information sheet to be filed in all other civil cases. This sheet will be completed and filed by both the initiating and responding parties regarding that party’s information. The information will be used to match parties in the court’s case management system and will be exempt from disclosure. The case information sheet can be found on the Supreme Court’s website HERE.
- Pursuant to Senate Bill 1202 the Supreme Court has created forms to be utilized by the sheriff to execute garnishments. Those forms that must be utilized beginning JULY 1, include:
- Notice of Exemptions;
- Instructions to Debtors and Third Parties;
- Claims of Exemption; and
- Written Interrogatories to Garnishee.
These forms will be available on the Supreme Court’s website HERE.
- The required Summons forms have been amended in civil and family law matters to warn defendants of potential adverse judgment if they do not respond within 21 (previously 20) days. This change was effective in civil cases in September of 2016 and in family cases, July 1, 2017. These forms are available on the Supreme Court’s website here: Civil Summons & Family Law Summons.
- R.F.L.P. 126 and the Child Support Guideline Forms have been revised. These changes become effective July 1, 2017. The forms are available on the Supreme Court’s website HERE.
