John R Justice Grant Applications due by Sept. 5
The University of Idaho College of Law is accepting applications for the John R Justice Grant until September 5, 2018 for the 2016-17 and 2017-2018 years. (The deadline has been extended from August 31). The John R. Justice Student Loan Repayment Program (JRJ) provides loan repayment assistance for state and federal public defenders and state prosecutors who agree to remain employed as public defenders and prosecutors for at least three years. County and city prosecutors prosecuting adult and juvenile criminal cases are eligible, (prosecutors handling child support and Child Protection cases are ineligible) as are federal, state, and county public defenders (public defenders working under contracts are ineligible).

Call for Nominations: Richard C. Fields Civility Award- Deadline Sept. 21
The Idaho State Bar Professionalism & Ethics Section and Concordia University School of Law are honored to invite nominations for the Richard C. Fields Civility Award. Dick Fields was consistently recognized for his service, professionalism, and leadership within the Idaho State Bar and was known in the legal community as an advocate for civility in the practice of law. Dick received the Idaho State Bar’s Distinguished Lawyer Award in 2000 and chaired the Dean’s Advisory Council at Concordia Law since its inception in 2009, until his passing in April 2014.
In honor of Dick’s memory and the legacy he left for future generations of lawyers in Idaho, we invite you to nominate an Idaho lawyer who demonstrates a commitment to professionalism and civility in the profession. To do so, please send an email to Julianne Hall, (jhall@gfidaholaw.com), Professionalism & Ethics Section Chair, with the name of the attorney and a paragraph describing the attorney’s commitment to civility in the profession. The selection committee will also consider any accompanying information such as resumes or letters in support, though that information is not required. The intent is to present the Richard C. Fields Civility Award at the Idaho State Bar’s 2018 Resolution Meeting (aka The Roadshow) in the district of the awardee’s residence upon receiving confirmation from the respective local district bar officers.
Deadline for submitting a nomination is Friday, September 21, 2018.

Federal Bar Association 14th Annual Tri-State Seminar Sept. 20-22
The Utah Chapter of the Federal Bar Association is excited to announce the 14th Annual Tri-State Seminar, September 20-22, 2018 at the Lodges at Deer Valley.
The Tri-State Seminar is an annual seminar addressing a wide range of topics. The seminar rotates between Jackson, Wyoming, Park City, Utah and Sun Valley, Idaho. The Tri-State Seminar was founded 14 years ago by the Honorable Judges Bill Downes (Wyoming), Dee Benson (Utah) and Lynn Winmill (Idaho), to discuss issues that affect western states and provide opportunities for members of the three FBA chapters to meet fellow federal practitioners.

Idaho Academy of Leadership for Lawyers Class of 2018-19 Announced
The Idaho Academy of Leadership for Lawyers proudly announces their 2018-2019 class. The participants are part of the largest class in the Academy’s eight year history. The diverse makeup of the class features attorneys from Coeur d’Alene to Pocatello who encompass an array of practice areas. Participants have pursued legal careers in the fields of higher education, local, state, and federal government, private practice, and public advocacy. Their legal experience ranges from 5 to 18 years of admission into the Idaho State Bar. Participants will meet in Boise over five sessions for this interactive leadership training program designed specifically for lawyers. The first session will take place September 28 & 29 with Graduation set for May 3, 2019. Lawyer Representative Sought from the 6th and 7th Districts
The Judges of the United States District and Bankruptcy Courts for the District of Idaho intend to appoint a Lawyer Representative to serve on the Ninth Circuit Conference of the United States Courts for a three-year term to replace Nicole Hancock. In addition to Nicole Hancock, the District of Idaho’s current Lawyer Representatives are April Linscott, Robert Faucher, and Howard Burnett (emeritus).
