Notice of Judicial Recruitment Workshop -Sept. 25

A Judicial Recruitment Workshop will be held Friday, September 25, 2020 from 12:00 Noon – 1:00 p.m. MDT via Zoom.  This workshop will provide information to attorneys about what it is like to be on the bench, the selection process, the opportunities available, and benefits of judicial service. Save the Date – 2020 Fall New Attorney Program – Nov.13: Live Webcast

The date for the 2020 Fall New Attorney Program has been set for November 13, 2020 from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm and it will be held via live webcast only.

The New Attorney Program consists of an introduction on Idaho practice, procedure, and ethics. This course meets the CLE requirements of Idaho State Bar Commission Rule 402(f)(3).

New Idaho attorneys who have actively practiced law for fewer than 3 years in any jurisdiction prior to admission in Idaho must complete the New Attorney Program within 12 months of being admitted in Idaho.

If your deadline to complete the New Attorney Program would fall between September 20 – November 12, 2020, you will automatically be given an extension of that deadline to November 13, 2020, in order to attend this program.

Resolution Submission Deadline -Sept. 25

Unlike many state bars, the Idaho State Bar cannot take positions on legislative matters, rules of court, or substantive rules governing the Bar itself at its Annual Meeting or by act of its Bar Commissioners without first submitting such matters to the membership through the Resolution Process.

The Resolution Process is set forth in Idaho Bar Commission Rule 906. Resolutions may be submitted by a District Bar Association, the Board of Commissioners, a Bar committee, or an individual member of the Bar. Resolutions submitted by a District Bar Association, the Board of Commissioners, or the Idaho Supreme Court are automatically included in the resolution process.

United States Magistrate Judge Opening

The Judicial Conference of the United States has authorized the appointment of a full-time U.S. Magistrate Judge for the U.S. District Court, District of Idaho. The position will be created by the planned retirement of Judge Ronald E. Bush on June 10, 2021 and located in Boise, ID.

Fee Arbitration Panelists Needed

Bar Counsel’s Office is in need of new fee arbitration panelists. The Idaho State Bar’s Fee Arbitration Panels review matters submitted to fee arbitration by clients disputing fees charged by their lawyer. Panels are held in various districts and are formed as needed. If the filed dispute is for $2,500 or less, it is assigned to a one lawyer panel; if the filed dispute is for more than $2,500, it is assigned to a three-member panel including one non-lawyer.

IDAHO ACADEMY OF LEADERSHIP FOR LAWYERS APPLICATIONS NOW AVAILABLE – Due August 10!

The Idaho Academy of Leadership for Lawyers (IALL) is now accepting applications for the Class of 2020-2021.

IALL is a highly selective and well-regarded leadership training program for lawyers from Idaho. It brings together some of the best and brightest attorneys in Idaho and teaches them leadership skills that they can use to improve the legal profession and transform their communities.

The mission of IALL is to promote diversity and inspire the development of leadership within the legal profession. IALL will bring together lawyers from different practice areas with a variety of backgrounds from all across Idaho. IALL will build upon the participant’s leadership skills and promote leadership experience by:

  • Teaching accepted and recognized leadership skills and philosophies;
  • Fostering professional relationships within the Idaho legal community and the greater community;
  • Promoting professional obligations and community service; and
  • Raising awareness among lawyers of the broad range of issues and challenges facing leaders today.
