United States Magistrate Judge Opening

The Judicial Conference of the United States has authorized the appointment of a full-time U.S. Magistrate Judge for the U.S. District Court, District of Idaho. The position will be created by the planned retirement of Judge Ronald E. Bush on June 10, 2021 and located in Boise, ID.

Federal Bar Association Brown Bag CLE: Effective Virtual Litigation and Mediation During the Pandemic

Newly Formed ISB Agricultural Law Section Accepting New Members

The newly formed Idaho State Bar Agricultural Law Section is now accepting members.  The Agricultural Law Practice Section will focus on and highlight specific legal topics that affect agricultural law and keep its members apprised of current events and current law changes that affect this area of practice.  The Section will meet on the fourth Thursday of the month.  Their next meeting is scheduled for August 27th at 12:00 pm (MT). There will be a half-hour CLE presented during the meeting.

Membership dues are as follows:

2020 Standard Membership Dues – $30
Attorneys Admitted to ISB Less Than 3 Years – $20
Law Students, Law Professors, Law Clerks, Senior ISB Members, Members of the Public – $20

To officially join the Agricultural Law Section as a voting member, please complete the Section Registration Form and return with payment to Dayna Ferrero at the Idaho State Bar, PO Box 895, Boise, Idaho 83701 or you can make payment online.  If you are making payment online, please detail in the description that you are paying dues for the “Agricultural Law Section.”

The election of officers of the Governing Council will be held electronically beginning July 1st.  All paying members of the section at that time will be sent a link to vote electronically.

The Federal Court’s Coronavirus Response: Brown Bag CLE – June 4

The Federal Bar Association invites you to join us as Chief U.S. District Judge David C. Nye, Chief U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Joseph M. Meier, Chief U.S. Magistrate Judge Ronald E. Bush and Clerk of the Court Stephen W. Kenyon describe preparations and actions, which they took in response to the coronavirus pandemic. They will share the precautions the court will be taking as it begins to gradually return to pre-pandemic operations. The panelists will be also be available to answer your questions on the measures that will be taken to ensure the health and safety of all courthouse users.

New Idaho State Bar Commissioners

The voting members of the Idaho State Bar elected two new members of the Board of Commissioners.  Boise attorney Kristin Bjorkman Dunn will represent the Fourth District, replacing Immediate Past President Judge Michael Oths.  Twin Falls attorney Laird Stone will represent the Third and Fifth Districts, replacing Commissioner David Kerrick of Caldwell.  Both Commissioners will serve three-year terms, beginning in July 2020.

The Law Day 2020 theme is “Your Vote, Your Voice, Our Democracy: The 19th Amendment at 100.” In 2019-2020, the United States is commemorating the centennial of the transformative constitutional amendment that guaranteed the right of citizens to vote would not be denied or abridged by the United States or any state on account of sex.
