District Judge Barry McHugh, chambered in Kootenai County, and District Judge Barbara Duggan, chambered in Shoshone County, have announced their retirements; their positions will be filled by election and the new judges will take office on January 4, 2027. 

A Judicial Recruitment Workshop will be held Wednesday, February 18, 2026 from 12:00 Noon – 1:00 p.m. PST via Zoom.  This workshop will provide information to attorneys about what it is like to be on the bench, the selection process, the opportunities available, and benefits of judicial service.
