What is included in a certificate of good standing?
A certificate of good standing includes: attorney’s name, current status, date of admission, whether or not admission was by examination or motion, date the attorney’s current status began and certification that the attorney has never been suspended or disbarred from the Idaho State Bar. Can inactive members of the Idaho State Bar get a certificate of good standing?
Inactive members have not met the requirements for licensing and are not in good standing. They cannot get a certificate. Please contact the Licensing Department at (208) 334-4500 about the possibility of getting written verification of current status instead.
How to order.
First, verify that you need a certificate of good standing from the Idaho State Bar. Some jurisdictions require certification from “the highest court where admitted" or "from the clerk of the court." If you need a certificate from the Idaho State Bar, send a written request to the Licensing Department including information on where the certificate should be sent and the appropriate fee. If you need a certificate from the Supreme Court, contact the Clerk’s Office at (208) 334-2210 for information about ordering and cost.
Cost for Idaho State Bar Certificates.
$10 for the first one and $2.50 for any additional certificates. Please make checks payable to the Idaho State Bar. You can also pay by Visa or MasterCard by including your credit card information in a faxed request to (208) 334-2764. Please contact the Licensing Department at (208) 334-4500 to supply credit card information over the phone.
How long does it take to process a request for a certificate of good standing?
It usually takes approximately 3 working days to process a request. You can speed up the process by faxing your request along with your Visa or MasterCard information to (208) 334-2764. Please do not expect to get a certificate on same day it is ordered.
Can the certificate be picked up or sent overnight?
If you want to pick up the certificate when it's ready, please include the name and phone number of your contact person. If you provide you FedEx account number, we can send the certificate by overnight delivery.
